The procedure of resetting network settings in Windows allows you to solve the problems that make it impossible for users of this operating system to restore Internet functionality by other means.

Among the common errors are:

  • connection is restricted;
  • unable to connect to this network;
  • Internet over Wi-Fi is not working;
  • this computer is missing one or more network protocols;
  • there is no ☑ check mark against «Do not use a gateway when connecting VPN»;
  • the DNS is not up to date;
  • new drivers for the network card are not working correctly.

Resetting network settings restores all network functions and settings (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, VPN, network adapters) to their original values, i.e. to the factory default state.

To reset network settings in Windows, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  1. Click Start — «Settings».

  2. Click «Network and Internet».

  3. If you are a Windows 10 user, go to «Status» and click «Reset Network».

    If you are a Windows 11 user, go to «Advanced Options» and click «Reset Network».
  4. Click «Reset now».

  5. Click «Yes».

  6. After the PC restarts on its own, click «Yes» again.

    The network settings will be restored to default.

You can also reset the network settings using the command line. To do this, you need to:

  1. Run the command prompt as administrator:
    1. 1.1 Press  +S on your keyboard.
    2. 1.2 Type cmd in the search line.
    3. 1.3 If you have normal user rights, select «Command Prompt». If you have administrator rights — right click on «Command Prompt» and select «Run as administrator».

  2. Enter the following commands sequentially, pressing «Enter» at the end of the line after each one:

    netsh winsock reset
    netsh int ip reset all
    netsh winhttp reset proxy
    ipconfig / flushdns

  3. After the PC restarts on its own, the network settings will be restored to default.
